As a non programmer who uses Ami and is a bit of a software junkie I will try to give you an objective answer to a very subjective question..
First off,Trading Blox costs 15x what AMI costs if you buy the Blox professional package. And if you dont buy the pro package, then you really arent comparing apples to oranges....Also,Blox is really a pure system backtester, and quite possibly the best .But it has a fraction of the features that Ami has...
I think the best answer I can give is thru an analogy of a question I was asked:
The question was "What do you think the best martial art is"?
My repy was "the one you will do"....
This holds true to trading and software.Which product will you use,and which product will you be able to use...
Trading Blox is the most powerful tool for those who cant or wont program. It simply has the best rule/system wizard on the market. The reports and graphs, layout ,and ability to mix and match data, systems test and optimise is also one of the best and the easiest to implemet.
Ami's BASIC programming is also very easy to use and powerful. You can code most systems, backtest and optimise in a flash.I am no programmer and found that aspect realtively simple. As I said,it also has tons and tons of features that Blox doesnt have...
With that said,if you plan on doing "sophisticated" money management, scaling in and out of positions in Ami,if you are not a programmer you will be in for world of hurt, and dont let anyone tell you differently..BTW,that applies to most trading software products. There simply is no free luch on this one.Blox will make your life ALOT easier, but that free lunch will cost you $2800....Only you can decide if 2800 bucks is worth the price of admission...
For the record,I gave up attempting to code advanced algorithms in AMI.It simply wasnt a productive use of my time and it was making me #$%^* crazy!!.HOWEVER,you can pay very talented programmers/ami users to code anything you want and the board is pretty good about helpingAlso,I am pretty dam sure it wont cost you that much, and there is a chance you will be able to "master" the more advanced code.
In summary, there is no question that Blox is far easier to come up with advanced systems. But I would caution you that could be a dangerous path to take. You need to fully understand what exactly you are testing/trading.If you are a seasoned trader and dont have the time/desire to program,Blox may be the ultimate tool. But if you are relatively new to trading, the ease of Blox and applying the system is somewhat analogous to walking into the ring against a seasoned fighter after reading 2 great books on boxing...
I for one am glad you brought this up.I have pleaded and suggested that Tomaz (the developer) come up with a system wizard similar to blox.Until then you should definetly demo Ami before buying Blox..Take a look at the online manual.Thats really the only way to get a feel for the product and its level of complexity.
