 Hi Joe,

As I recall, in a firefight, something like 8 out of 10 members of a squad
have their heads down and are not in the fight.  True you aren't likely to
get shot, but then you won't get any medals either.  This morning was a
pretty good time to poke one's head up and take a few shots -- then scramble for
cover and hunker down.

BCRX, BLDP, NGAS -- all modified 123 setups (+DI not > -DI)
were traded.  BLDP did a reversal right at the 3 day breakout point and I
took the buck+ profit.  NGAS was working on the 3 day BO, but got
caught in the 3 PM dump, still holding it.  BCRX finished strong and
running on in after-hours on bird flu in Iran story -- took a buck on
1/2 the position.  AZPN finished the Lizard play started Mon and
became a BTM this AM -- all in all good for several points.
NVAX and AVII also bird flu babes, have popped AH as well and are > 5 so may
be BTM candidates soon.

Thanks for the WSJ article -- I've an online subscription so could access
it w/o problem.  I've read similar items over the past several years --
there's an outfit in Switzerland (if memory serves) that has been doing just
this for several years with some high powered boxes and algorithms that look for
arbitrage opportunities.  Way beyond my capabilities <LOL>.

Trader's Library occasionally puts the link to the package info on their
sales page, other times you have to click on the info about the book and then
see a further link to the package.  I just checked and there's one now --
book page:  http://www.traderslibrary.com/moreinfo.asp?item=3156887&SID=KKFSZJQOCIFA2566216799355462F897 and
the special offer page: http://www.traderslibrary.com/hitandrun1/?SID=KKFSZJQOCIFA2566216799355462F897&lc=QuickSearch .
I've not bought the updated volumes as I already own the video and the originals
and the updated look to add about 20 pages of more examples of the patterns, but
I don't thing there's any new setups.  I could be wrong.  If I could
sell my video, I'd probably get the update copies just to see, and some day may
do so anyway.  They certainly have paid for themselves as far as I'm
concerned, but then it fits my trading style and is easy to program AAs in AB
(except for backtest strategies because of the exit issues).  I have
devised some strategies that backtest very well but are poor traders, and
vice-versa, so I remain skeptical about turning over my wallet to a computer and
sleeping in every morning.  I'm also not a scalper by nature, but certainly
will take the four bits to bucker trade intraday.

Markets had a good day until the dump.  I don't make market
forecasts, but feel that there's a lower bottom this summer still out
there.  Need to continue refining the short strategies and play the quick
movers up with an eye on the exit at all times.  The 1-2-3-4 is a pretty
reliable pattern if one has patience.

Patrick - Thanks again.  Have no fear, I
did not trade on yesterdays scan.  I'm hunkered down in this foxhole in
  Houston and
not going to lift up my head just yet,
although this morning promises a better outlook @ + ~50 in DJI
  futures
fair value.  That is until the
automated programs start to pound it down.  VBG..  I have a
  hard time converting from
being an investor, read "long" person,
to taking the opposite position.  I have a lot to learn and it
  doesn't really suit
  my disposition.  I'm looking at
  folioFN or gurufolios.

  On automated trading - I know there's
cadre on this forum that's working with automated training on AB, but what
about this. Did you see a 4/16/06 WSJ article on the use of supercomputers in trading?   Here's a
  paragraph.

  Supercomputers Speed Up
  Game
"Today, computers can spot and capitalize on
tiny price discrepancies in milliseconds, such as a difference between a stock
listed on two exchanges separated by an ocean. Banks, hedge funds and other
big investors have direct feeds to exchanges that bypass brokers and let them
trade much more easily and often."

Seems that global mergers like NYSE and
Euronext will reduce the differences c'ne pas?

Thanks for the information on Conners/Cooper.
I'll probably follow up on that, although have not been able to home
  in
on the particular package at Trader's
  Press.   Will try eBay also.

Was wondering how you thought these
  setups would backtest?

  Thanks again for your generous
  support.

  In gratitude
  Joe

    Hi Joe,

You sang my praises too soon.  I've discovered that in piecing
together the code to distribute, I grabbed some include files which conflict
with the other variables set in the scan.  Consequently, the watchlist
management and/or other parameter choices don't function as they
should.  Attached is a corrected (and hopefully correct) AA for the 123
and 1234 setups -- I made this one selectable to include the snippets I
    posted earlier.

Apologies to all for the mess up.  Hope this gets there
before too many waste too much time on my error.  Just trash the AA
    from last night.

      Good morning Patrick....Hope things have
settled down for you in the NW.  Seems like you're on the board a bit
      more than
      in the past
      months.
Your 1-2-3-4 script is a fine piece of
work and promises to yield good results.

I've  just ran it against my
~3200 stock "universe" and I must say the 73 issues that result in the screen look very
      promising.

Would you point me to the underlying
      method by Conners and Cooper?

      Best regards
      Joe

        Hi Lal,

If you are referring to Larry Connors and Jeff Cooper's 1-2-3-4 See
the attached for a long version of the setup as a 1-2-3.  I leave
it to you to code a short version and post it -- OK?

This code has a few of my tweaks for parameters that I've found
helpful to modify, buy it is set to default as a pure 1-2-3.
It will also allow you to send the results to a watchlist for tracking
-- it is one of the setups I regularly use (tho not with the settings
originally described by Connors and Cooper).

        Enjoy.

  Hello,
Has anyone coded 1-2-3 Buy and Sell
setups in Amibroker and is willing to share the
          code?
  Thanks, Lal
