Tony,
What you say is completely NOT true. There are already TWO 64bit Windows operating systems
and one of them Windows XP Pro x64 is targeted to mainstream public.
What's more Windowx XP x64 is much safer investment than going to
Vista because XP x64 is around for quite a while, stable working well
and having almost no compatibility problems (I am running it with many 32bit old
applications and everything is just fine). It is good option for existing hardware.
XP64 *is* new because it just provides completely NEW 64 bit platform.
This is breakthrough in fact. Yes it does not have new icons, pictures and all that useless stuff,
but it is new from the INSIDE.
Vista on the other hand would need at least one service pack to get stability
(as always with MS products) and is going to be released in 7 or 8 "editions"
making proper pick very complicated - because you would end up either
with very limited product (cheaper versions) or with product bundled with stuff
you don't need or costing too much (expensive versions).
Vista will also be resource hungry, so if you want to make your hardware busy
just handling all "bells and whistles" of OS then you may consider it worthwhile,
but if you want your hardware to make actual work with applications then XP is wiser choice.
Best regards,
Tomasz Janeczko

Hello Ross,
I think it's not the right time to switch to 64-bit windows.
It's not very common and lacks drivers.
If your only use is AmiBroker all will probably fine.
Windows Vista is the 1st 64-bit Windows OS that will be targeted to
the mainstream public.

It will be released Q3. For the money you spend on it you get a
complely new OS. XP 64-bit offers nothing new and will be replaced a
few months after you bought it.
All imo :-)
