quickAFL makes drawing charts faster because it only uses the bars on
screen, plus a few more. This is ok for simple charts, but for ones
that need to use all of the bars in the database, like those with
loops that rely on the previous values to determine future values it
falls down. So you use the setbarsrequired to overcome the effects of
quickafl. It has been discussed within the group in the past, and the
change logs for AB versions does have some information when the
quickafl was permanently turned on.
setbarsrequired is one of the standard lines I now have in almost all of my afl
