For the same reason you entered your message here sequentially, top to
bottom, the whole message, including original post and
replies/comments, makes sense entered sequentially top to bottom.  

But the answer to your probably rhetorical question, is that the
internet existed before you could point and click your way to Internet
Success, and before MS released outlook distress with its top posting.
 Then common sense prevailed, and ongoing conversations continued in
sequential order.  There were even FAQs available to let new folks
know how to get along well with others so they could participate
effectively, eg check out:  The Absolute Beginners Guide to Usenet -
FAQ - Top posting.
