Hi David
I am also a former Metastock user. I have been working with the demo
version of Amibroker for a few days. Looks like I am in the same
position as you.
I can tell you unequivocally - there is no comparison between Metastock
and this program - it is light years ahead in terms of it's
functionality. The first thing you will notice is that this software is
lightning fast compared to Metastock - something about the way in which
the program processes data (arrays). I am not a programmer by any means,
nor do I know anything about Excel. Your explorations and systems tests
will take a fraction of the time required by Metastock. The System
Tester itself is much more robust than MS, and besides, the last version
of MS I had (subscription ended 01/2004) included a buggy system tester!!
At first I was a bit doubtful that I could learn the Formula Language
but as we speak I am looking at the Formula Library on the Amibroker
website and then 'reverse engineering' some of the indicators there in
order to figure out how the language works - it is going fine.
In fact.... later today a post I made to this board may appear (after
running into a queue at Yahoo) - it asks for help in finding sources of
'AmiBroker Formula Language for Dummies' or some type of very simplistic
step by step instructions about how to code in this formula language. I
was under the impression that no such documents were available and after
moping for a few minutes, I decided 'what the hell' and dove in and
things are not bad at all.
I am not sure if you are a programmer, but this issue of learning the
formula language is the only one I can see and it turns out that it is
not much of an issue at all. It will take time, like anything else, but
once you see this program you will know that it is worth it.
This may seem an over the top reco but believe me, I knew nothing about
Amibroker until a few days ago. It's just that the difference between
this and Metastock is so huge - I can't believe I was working in MS all
this time. Hope that helps, Nikku
You must get the demo and check this program out.

The majority meet with failure because of their lack of persistence in creating new plans to take the place of those which fail.
