I have never used the templates facility, tried it once long ago and had
difficulty working out what it did. But the layout facility is very useful
as I use it for testing new systems, creating a new layout for the system
charts. This saves needing too many chart sheets.
I just wish the IB custom chart list could be managed in line with the
layouts so that I do not have a long, long list of indicators. But then I
have already asked for that with Tomasz.
Cheers,
Graham

I'm using templates in conjunction with layouts quite often. When modifying
a layout (or creating new from scratch) I would like one of the WINDOWS in
this layout to contain the indicators available in a previously saved
template, its much easier to loadup that template with all those predefined
indicators than to create the whole thing again. To do that right click on
the new WINDOW and select Templates-->Load then select the previously
created template and save your new layout. A layout can contain many windows
a template is a set of predefined indicators and chart pages. You are ALWAYS
using a layout and a template, it could be the defaults but whenever you are
viewing a chart window you are in effect using both.

So there really is no situation where you should choose templates
over layouts even if all you want to do is save sheet setup? Layouts
does this and more and they are more easily accessed.
