In general, you can't short a mutual fund. But while Fidelity has
rarely promoted the practice -- which it has allowed off and on since
the late 1980's -- within a Fidelity brokerage account, it's possible
to short some of their Select Sector funds.

Of Fidelity's ~ 41 Selects, only 11 can be shorted: Automotive (FSAVX)
, Banking (FSRBX) , Biotechnology (FBIOX) , Energy (FSENX) ,
Environmental (FSLEX) , Food & Agriculture (FDFAX) , Gold (FSAGX) ,
Health Care (FSPHX) , Medical Delivery (FSHCX) , Telecommunications
(FSTCX) , and Utilities Growth (FSUTX) .

This is a bit dated, as I've stopped trading the Selects, and I know
the rules are in "flux". I do know, the short side is not immediate,
you have to speak to the desk, and see if they have shares available.
