Dave,
You are confusing many things.
First of all:
Number of bars to load is settable in
File->Database Settings
(NOT in preferences!)
See User's Guide: Tutorial:
Tutorial: How to use AmiBroker with external data source (Quotes Plus, TC2000/TCNet, FastTrack, Metastock)
Second thing:
100 EOD bars is not 3 years !!!
- one year of EOD data is 260 bars
so three years is 780 bars.
Third thing:
AmiBroker does NOT load data for symbols that you are NOT looking at.
It loads only the data for symbols that are being displayed (scanned/backtested/etc)
so you should not worry about loading data that are not used.
