Dear Trader,
I am not entirely comfortable in commenting to another user of a
public forum, but I am compelled to state my concerns. While you
have contributed some very positive items here, I am increasingly
taken aback by what I sense as an impatient and condescending tone,
specifically to Tomasz, but also occasionally to other users.
I know we all get frustrated at times when things don't do what we
want them to right away. God knows I have felt that way myself. But
I am irritated by what I sense are put-downs to Amibroker and to
Tomasz' efforts. I have purchased items (not just software) where I
have paid far more and received far less support from its creator.
Not only does he promptly answer specific questions that pertain to
individual users, but he has also added new features and
documentation in an almost tireless fashion.
I am also growing a little weary of constant comparisons to
Tradestation and Metastock and other programs, which we all know cost
quite a bit more. There is no doubt in my mind, that for the price,
the functionality of Amibroker is a superb deal. I have never used
Tradestation, so perhaps I can't appreciate how good it is, but if
there is so much with which you can not live without, then why did
you switch to something else? Several years ago, I purchased another
Omega Research trading product called Wall Street Analyst, for about
the same price I paid for Amibroker. I had some major problems
getting the software to run on my computer, and I found their Help
Department to be uncooperative and almost nasty at that time. So
believe me, what Tomasz provides is no comparison.
Please take this post in the spirit in which it is intended, that
being a request to turn down your tone which could be interpreted as
a constant slap at Tomasz' efforts or his product. I don't want him
to feel that he is not appreciated, because I, for one, am very
impressed. If you are angered by this post, I am sure that I have
not written it carefully enough to ensure that you won't have some
opportunity to criticize me, and for that, I will just have to take
the chance.
Sincerely,
David Beaudoin
