Perhaps an option in preferences could address both possibilities.
It may be beneficial to some to identify the % retracement of a
downtrend - to estimate/forecast the extent of rallies.
Unfortunately I don't have the familiarity with the original theory to
make an informed judgement at this time. But IMHO having the option of
both available could be helpful.
