you should try them again
just make sure you get 3 things
a: new cable from pole to your modem
b: new modem
c: a back up battery for your computer , also is a surge protector,
and, plug it ,, (modem and computer to this back up battery/surge protector)
now you see the diffrence,,
your cable guy can measure the signal strength,, he will be shocked
