This warning should especially concern owners of Bronze and Silver versions, because they don’t have Composite Expert module, which partially compensates for mistakes in program’s core main window.
There are several reasons for this message to be posted here. First of all it is market related and would be interesting for non Market Trader owners as well. Second, all my technical posts are taken either personally or from marketing point of view at MT forums and being erased. I was barked by Bill Foster and expelled from main MT forum, but that’s not my or other MT owner’s problem and should be corrected.
Before I was kicked from MT board I made posts about J.M.Hurst cycle filters.
They are objective and indispensable in identifying cycle phase. I made a study in excel and now I can prove the case. They also can be used to rectify cycle length. Although cycle length should be known in advance, oscillator curve can show actual cycle length within a 25% of the length input. (You have to experiment with it to see how it works). Filter Construction is simple. Two half span back shifted MAs, where length of 1st MA1=analyzed cycle length, length of second MA2=1/2 analyzed cycle length. Then oscillator= MA2-MA1.
Attached file Dow Oscillator.csv contains final data output for Saturn/Uranus 360* cycle on Dow= 16569 calendar days. So MA1=16569, MA2=8284 periods. Note that DJI historical data was converted to calendar format, then converted to natural logarithm scale, then cycle filter was constructed. Oscillator shows culminations of Saturn/Uranus cycle, not the time of absolute high or low within that cycle. For that, other cycles have to be accounted in similar fashion and summed up in a composite wave. The point is that Hurst oscillator is a great tool for doing such cycle work.
Although I was dumped from MT group, idea of using Hurst for filtering astro cycles made its impact. But see how Sergey “solved” the problem and you will understand why I called programmers crooked. He made a post on MT site, see http://www.alphee.com//Case/Patch_8_May/some_notes.htm
He claims that relative oscillator constructed with his brand Symmetric moving average produces the same results as Hurst oscillator. That is outrageous lie. Formula is clearly different
Also Symmetric MA isn’t meant for cycle work. They produce serious cycle distortions if one is subtracted from another. Those distortions start as noise and become greater on greater cycle lengths. I made a comparison study that clearly shows that. Blue line shows genuine Hurst cycle filter imported from excel. Red line shows Sergey’s Relative oscillator modeled by MT. See Oscillator Study.gif Both are constructed at Saturn/Uranus length of 16569 periods or days (45.36 years). You can see that Hurst oscillator (blue line) accurately identifies Saturn/Uranus cycle. Sergey’s relative oscillator (Red line) is pure garbage at such length, it even looks and feels glitchy.
You can duplicate results in MT. Hurst Oscillator data is inserted in Open interest field. Open Dow Oscillator.csv in MT and mark Open Interest field to see the oscillator over price. Logarithm of Dow is inserted in Volume field.
This example shows how company solves the problems and customer requests and how it deals with customer feedback.
Generally programmers are well skilled in math and very proud about it , but at the same time rather ignorant when it comes to market proportion. Often their ignorance is multiplied by their pride.
Fortunately that wasn’t the case with J.M.Hurst. He built his work on principals of synchronicity and proportionality. He boldly proclaimed new philosophy of wave mathematics. He discovered essential ratios in the cycle structures that are well proven and work in various conditions.
Nowadays we see mathematicians like Juric with his tweak on least square formula and Sergey with his Symmetrical are trying to beat J.M. But so far they fail in one way or another when it comes to filtering cycles. The question is: should those mathematical experiments to be made on the expense of users or in Sergey’s and Juric’s spare time?
I am not saying my experience is totally negative with the program. It is rather overall positive, but at about 72%. Some modules are worse then others and if I talk about them it seems too bad, but overall it isn’t.
Here is the break down of my satisfaction rating:
Main window -50%
No good oscillator-cycle filters. That’s a great fault for a cycle analysis program.
Bronze and Silver owners are in big trouble. No good filter tools. Others just lack some tools.
Relative oscillator turns in a piece of junk at length over 200. MACD has no variables. No conversion to logarithmic scale. Strategy has no weight optimization and no excel output.
Statistical Expert -0%
Wasn’t able to figure its practical use either because of lack of documentation or else. I understand the use procedure. Results are junk.
Larries Expert – 50% I wanted to leave it out of equation. It’s ok, but it isn’t really a serious cycle tool as it is now. Average technical analysis program has something like that and better. Why is it called Larry’s? Because Larry is Alpee’s personal friend or something. Nothing special about it.
I wish time ratios would be linked to a planetary table database and display all relevant planetary harmonics at specified orb or at least #days, hours, minutes in-between projections. That would turn it into powerful research tool.
Otherwise it is a pathetic price calculator, no cigar for Larry.
Composite Expert- 90%. I wish harmonics being expanded at least to 24H. That’s 15*.
Doesn’t work on intraday data.
Otherwise ingenious and most popular module.
Black box-85%. Orbs are limited only to 90*. Lack of model editing tools. Very unfriendly interface. Does the job, but very hard to use, takes lots of time. Ask Abhay.
Step and aspect analyzer -100%. It just does the job written on its label.
Super Search – 80%. Long story.
Graphic Ephemeris – 90%. Could add stock chart overlay to background and 360* decimal output. Otherwise superb.
Millennium – 95%. Integration works on chart, but not on meter scale.
No black moon in transits, otherwise makes great addition to MT.
That’s about it for today,
Sergey asked me to write a positive review for MT site. I plan to do so.
But I have to unload negative points somewhere too to make it realistic, not euphoric.
I also tried to exchange positive reviews for program improvements. It doesn’t always work. So negative stuff is a stronger cure for that and being multiplied by public opinion – can’t be better. Democratic principal works.
Thanks if you read to this point,
Greg.
