Try the bay area where the developers are offering
starter homes in the low $600,000 to $2.2 million.  A 3 bedroom bungalow
with an almost zero lot line starts at $360,000, if you can find one.  In
SF a friend of mine just refused $650,000 for a 3 bdrm 1 1/2 bath track
home.  So it all depends where you live.  IN the wine country an acre
of land starts at $360,000 and if you can plant grapes on it that would be the
opening bid.  Studio apartment rentals start at over $1000 a month.
So it all depends where you are how much it costs to put a roof over your
head.

to a 3 bedroom bungalow for $500k !Our
modest North Orange County, Ca home is closer to that figure than not:
350-360K, and it is not 'worth' that, regardless it would sell there.
Pretty scary.  Where will the labor pool live?  Our kid will not be
able to afford a home soon, maybe now.
My little job shop is a couple of steps up from dead in the water and has
  been for over a year.
  I won't vote for him.
