Re: [RT] Virus

Hello Ira,

Just a reminder that online scans are
only capable of attempting to remove a virus or worm that you already
have, and that often by this time it is too late. Some are only nuisances,
but others can even corrupt a system bios or destroy the entire contents of a
hard drive. Of course it is also true that by the time you catch it with an
online based scan, many viruses and worms have already sent themselves to
everyone on your mailing list, including all the members of this group,
perpetuating the cycle indefinitely. For both of
these reasons running online based scans should only be considered as a backup
to an installed and regularly updated program such as Norton AV, Panda, McAfee,
etc.. If you didn't get good results with McAfee, I'd suggest trying one of the
other solutions. Online scans alone do not by any means provide comprehensive
coverage. They are like going to a doctor to get fixed up after you get hit by a
truck instead of avoiding getting hit by the truck in the first
place.

If I'm saying things that you already
know then you have my apologies in advance, but someone may benefit from the
same remarks and save us all a lot of grief. In today's world a person who
knowingly does not do all they can to protect themselves and others
from viruses and worms is often seen in a similar light to those who write
them.

Strange world we live in. If all the
people spending their lives writing viruses worked on a cure for cancer it'd
probably be solved by now.

Thank you.  I used Housecall and it worked
fine.  I will try Norton on line later as a check.  I want to thank
you all for your help in this matter.  I have no idea why someone derives
pleasure from sending a virus.  Rather then cause someone discomfort and
trouble I would rather just take their money trading.  I can go out and
  enjoy that.  Thanks again.  Ira

    Ira:

    Some anti-virus and anti-trojan applications
show false hits.  Some use file size or file name as the indication of
infection, and others recognize snippets of virus code.  I know nothing
about the scanner you used, but the
"infected" files you found could be quite harmless.

If you use McAfee, scan your system again using
Norton Anti-Virus (they offer a free web-based scan), or one of several
    reputable firms recommended here previously.

    Regards.

For one as careful as myself to find out the
following was another eye opener in the world of the invasive computer
virus. .  I advise you all to check your computers with this
      program.  <A
      href="">www.housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/
. I found that I not only had the Klez worm virus but also the
Hybris worm.  I had over 50 files contaminated and had no clue.
I only frequent two groups and this is one of them.  So if you have
downloaded any of my e mail, run a check.  It is free.  It took
a couple of hours for this to go through all the programs on 2
computers, but I am virus free as of now.  Have a good week
      end.To
