Two trampled to death at supermarket opening
BEIJING (AP) — Two people were trampled to death and at least 15 were seriously
injured when crowds stampeded at the opening of a new supermarket in the northern
Chinese region of Inner Mongolia, official media said.
The Web site of the China Daily newspaper, quoting police and hospital
officials, said thousands of people — up to 50,000, according to one
report — showed up at the Jan. 17 opening of a new branch of the
Hualian supermarket chain in the city of Baotou.
