The US education system is neither as good nor as bad as some would have us
believe. The US remains a hotbed of engineering and scientific innovation
and much of the required brains and education is produced right here in the
US. This is the reason that so many countries send their best and brightest
minds here to learn.

It's true that we hear a lot about the shortage of talent in the high
technology industry and the industry has done a good job of making its case
to the press and to congress via its lobbyists. The public seems to be
mindless of the simple fact that the industry uses this "shortage" to bring
in hundreds of thousands of (relatively) low paid workers on "H" visas even
as large numbers of older technology workers were unable to find jobs. The
ultimate irony is that many of these workers have learned US technology and
returned to their native countries where they are founding companies to
compete with US based technology firms, especially in the software business.
