> Does anyone stand at their 'work station' to trade? <snip>
Dear Jim,
I do. Some time ago, I began to notice a slacking of energy in my work,
some behaviors that were distracting, aches-n-pains & moans-n-groans,
and an increasing tendancy to skylark. Also, I would get a stiff back
and sore. This was contrasted with sharp concentration and no
distracting behaviors at my "day job"--there I am more mobile. My
solution was thus:
Have a dedicated Trading Room. I call mine the "War Room." Nothing but
analysis, research, and trading go on there. I have another office for
non-trading activities and goofing off. In that room, I have a desk. In
the War Room, I have lunch-room tables on bricks to raise them a little
higher for charts and for books that I read over and over again (like my
Gann course) and a high table for my laptop and other materials. I
stand. [I have a backless laboratory chair for charting & drafting and
this is used rarely usually when I am fatigued and want to play with
crayons:) (read that charting)] I also have a small bookshelf and that
forces me to cull my books very carefully. I have music in the
room--Classics and a select collection of other works known to be good
for me to trade by. Other than a few drawings of Geometry, inspiring
pictures, and a cork board for my Daughter's notes, letters, and
pictures to me, nothing else is in the room.
I did a little geomancy in the room using both eastern and western
techniques. (That's Feng Shui to the East: Masonry to the West.)
When I stand, I have energy, am more alert, stick to the business of the
day, and make decisions faster and more decisively. I suffer no clutter
in the War Room. My War Room has differing "stations" with different
functions. I move around to "pump" my legs and keep up circulation.
Two things: a dedicated trading room and throwing out the chairs were
two really good moves to help me trade. Also, I suggest sneakers, Berks,
or some other very comfy shoe and do walk with a Spring or Bounce in
your step. (attitude determines altitude!)
