It is a fine line to be sure John and while I recognize that posts back to
the list could be helpful to others who are contemplating such a purchase
or who have made the purchase and want to see other opinions, we have to be
very careful on this topic. We have long term list members who contribute
much to our list and our knowledge who sell services and products. These
people are always very careful to not promote what they offer and it would
be an afront to them to allow others to promote either their own products
or those of others they do business with or know, personally.
I do feel that when a question is posed to the list, responses can be made
privately. I see little to be lost in this method and if others share the
same question, they can mail you and ask for any info that you were able to
glean from posing the question. There is something to be said for
responding about products and services to the list but there is much more
to be said against allowing this from people who believe it would be the
beginning of the end for RT to allow it. The committee's job and in fact,
my job, is to carry out the wishes of the majority while maintaining the
integrity of the list as laid out by the creator of RT. I hope you understand.
