To add to my original post about NOT having an updated virus checker being
the ultimate group antisocial behaviour notice that at the end of my email
message and that of several others who posted there is a tag about AVG
antivirus software. For those in North America and the United Kingdom this
software is free, updates automatically every evening (if you set it that
way), runs at a time you determine and checks your incoming and outgoing
email for viruses. It can be downloaded from www.grisoft.com . I am not an
expert on viral software, but with these features and that price there seems
to be little excuse not to use it if you are currently using nothing. I have
used it for several years and have not yet had a viral attachment slip by.
There are also free online scans available at:
http://housecall.antivirus.com/
http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/
http://www.commandondemand.com/eval/index.cfm
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/
Several web-based email addresses e.g. yahoo provide you the ability to do a
viral scan prior to downloading any attachment from their server, again a
fee service. Such web-based services will remove the infected attachment at
their end, before it is downloaded to your computer. So,again, there can be
little excuse not to use viral scanning
