Well, it isn't gambling on the casino's part. Not over-all. They have an
edge in the odds on every game. Some games, a lot more than
others. Craps, the lowest odds for them are only 13/12 on the pass
line. The worst odds are, as you might guess, are slots. As to counting
cards, you are free to count cards all you wish but you can't use anything
mechanical or electronic to aid you in the process. With all the decks in
use and the frequent shuffles, "stacking" the odds in your favor would be
most difficult. (Of course, if someone was counting and winning big, they
have a law out there that says they don't have to allow you to continue
playing at their joint and you can be sure that you won't be there
long). When I go, I only shoot craps and by putting a minimum bet on the
pass line along with the maximum odds allowed behind that bet, (10-1 to up
to 100-1), you have even money on the odds bet since they will pay you 2-1
on 4 or 10, 3-2 on 5 or 9, 6-5 on 6 or 8, which are the exact odds of not
making those points. This doesn't give you an edge but it doesn't leave
them one, either.
