Hi,
Happy New Year.
In many walks of life the majority are frequently pointing the way to
success. We just have to be open to see it and take advantage of the,
usually, free information.
Sometimes the majority point directly to success - for example on what side
of the road to drive in your country to help avoid accidents.
Sometimes the majority point indirectly to success - an example would be
trading.
In trading we learn to fade the majority when sentiment is very bullish or
very bearish. One rationale of this is that most have bought or sold and
there is almost no-one left to continue the 'trend'.
On the internet, there are equally good indications. I have just sent
out a large number of emails of a free quarterly newsletter. Thanks to
the 90% of subscribers whose email adresses did not return 'mailbox full',
'quota exceeded' or 'not known' or similar.
Of the 10% that bounced back, 95% were one of :
- yahoo.com,
- aol.com (also represented all of the delayed responses),
- hotmail.com,
- cs.com (formerly compuserve.com).
You will note that these are among the most popular email addresses -
representing just under 25% of the subscribers addresses - but accounting
for 95% of the failures and 100% of delayed responses.
You can no doubt give examples from your experience where the majority view
can be exploited one way or the other.
The majority are often good for an indicator, sometimes to follow,
sometimes to fade.
I continue to use this 'trick' as just one useful guide to successful
behaviour in most aspects of my life.
Use your knowledge of typical majority behaviour to leverage more success
for yourself in the New Year. Hope it works for you too.
