Re: [RT] VERY HEAVY BLK activity ON MSFT

It is my understanding that the way this works
is that when you open up a margin account at a brokerage firm and sign the M
& L agreement that you are allowing the firm to loan your stock out even
though it still shows in your acct. and on your statement each month.  As
long as the brokerage firm has stock in nominee street name that has not already
been loaned out that the stock is available to borrow to short.  The broker
has to call stock loan and get approval before shorting the stock.  In 27
yrs as a broker I've never heard anything about option activity having anything
to do with  stock availability as far as stock loan approving the short
sale.    I do not believe the average retail investor has
capitulated yet... in fact I heard that $6bln came back into mutual funds this
week....  I would say that as far as the average investor, not dealer, not
specialist or market maker, that as long as they are trying to short a widely
held stock like MSFT or INTC which was in original post.. that I would be
surprised if it was not available to be shorted unless you were dealing with a
very small firm.  Earlier this year there was a short run on stocks
like  KKD   and HAND  and those stocks among others were not
available for short sales.. but a stock like MSFT or INTC I'd find that hard to
believe, personally.........   J

Re: [RT] VERY HEAVY BLK activity ON MSFTThe average
public has to play by rules I layed out I believe.. The pointthough
was  the list of stocks that were mentioned which are very
liquidwidely held stocks...... so there should not be a problem shorting
thoseparticular stocks...... that was  my point... Your comments
don't point toany reason why those stocks would not be able to be
shorted....... I can'tspeak for dealers or market makers or
specialists.. obviously they don'thave to deal with uptick rule.......
the average investor does ... thoughthere has been talk about changing
the uptick rule.. I know hedge funds arepushing for that change... So
the back to the original question.... Do youreally believe that this
last week there would be a time when stocks likeMSFT, INTC,  ORCl
etc could not be shorted unless  the stock was notavailable by
stock loan of the particular brokerage firm that this personwas
