Although you have been 100% right about the extent to which Congress and
the administration has been willing to bailout the airline industry,
that doesn't prove that this is so important that it must be saved. It
looks a lot to me like the steel industry heading into the 70s, when it
took mass bankrupcies to force the kind of radical restructuring that
the industry needed.
I expect more marginal airlines to go out of business, and some
consolidation to occur, especially thru allowing foreign airlines to
increase their presence in the US. For example, let's kill the Bermuda
accord which foolishly restricts flights in and out of Heathrow.
The govt support doesn't really change the economics of the airlines,
which stinks.
