While we're on the subject ... something that works well for periodic
full backups is to get one of those $20 removeable IDE drive enclosures
that lets you swap an IDE drive in/out by just sliding the drawer out
and reconnecting
the cables (not hot-swappable though). Then, you can use a program like
Ghost, or Drive Copy to copy the entire drive (takes about 20 mins. on a
farily
large drive). The drive can then be removed (after powering down), and
stored off-site. This works pretty well on desktops where you have the
extra space for removeable drive, and ensures quick disaseter recovery.
Regarding RAID and Windows 2K, I've heard that getting RAID to work on a
bootable drive can be done, but is a bit of bear. And, one thing to
remember about RAID is that if the software goes haywire and corrupts
the disk (think virus for example), it'll make the same mistake in
tripiclate. :) RAID does offer high availability under normal
circumstances, and often offers better performance.
