Thanks for the chart: I agree with your 
opinion about a volitility breakout soon: maybe even tomorrow.  Here are 
some personal observations relative to this prediction you have 
made.
 
The gif I have included shows that as the 
atr has declined (2nd subgraph, yellow), we have now seen a few days of the ATR% 
moving up and hitting 1 on Fri.  This often presages a continuation of 
volitility expansion.
 
The fact that we retraced to the .62 level 
of the last downdraft, and that this happened to be near the .38 level 
retracement from the greater move down from Sept 00, as well at the same level 
as the Dec00 low, an expansion downward certainly appears most likely.  
Having failed the attempt at the mob level as well and approached the 
1.6 Keltner channel off of the weekly data, is further evidence for a downmove 
accompanying the volitility expansion.
