[RT] S&P open/close stats

PureBytes Links

Trading Reference Links

did a few quicks stats in Excel, using CSI backadjusted daily S&P 500 data
since 1982.

Splitting the days into top third, mid third and bottom third, the number
of:

Trend Days (O and C in opposite top/bottom thirds): 42%
Non-reverse days (includes trend days): (O in top or bottom third, close not
in same third): 63%
Open in top or bottom third: 72%

Since the start of Y2K the stats are: 47%, 65% and 72% respectively

So Larry Pesavento (see Nasdaq turning point post) is pretty much right,
except that of course if it happended randomly, the open would appear in the
top or bottom third about 67% of the time anyway.

Regards,

Robert
