YahooGroups messages delivered in HTML format often include code which can
provide member tracking information to YG advertisers. Here is how to
disable this kind of invasive behavior:
1) YahooGroups default is to convert all messages to HTML so that YG
advertisers can include tracking scripts with their advertisements - this
means that if a message comes in in plain text it will be converted to HTML.
a) for each list to which you belong at yahoogroups, use "Delivery Options"
to change preference from "HTML Conversion" to "No Conversion" - see first
GIF attached
2) use OE5 menu > Tools > Options > Send to set your default email
formatting to plain text - see second GIF attached:
a) under "Sending" uncheck "Reply to messages using the format in which they
were sent" - when this is checked, replies to HTML format messages will be
sent in HTML format
b) under "Mail Sending Format" click on the "Plain Text" button so that your
messages will be send out in plain text rather than HTML.
NOTE: for those personal messages which really need HTML formatting to be
fully expressive, simply use the menu > Format > Rich Text (HTML) option to
enable HTML.
3) encourage groups members who use HTML format to switch the default to
plain text - it is in everyone's interest to disable the invasive member
tracking by YG advertisers.
