Steve Carton, or someone presuming to be this person, sent to me directly a
reply to my public message with an attachment "IMAGES.PIF"
Very clever. PIF as an extension is a MS DOS compatibility shim, the old
Program Information File, and as such is executable on a great many computers.
Opened the attachment in NOTEPAD to view the contents, and its an
executable file.
Clever in that PIF almost looks like GIF and some would open it without
thinking.
Reporting this to security@xxxxxxxx; however its probably not from this
individual.
For my part in reducing this problem, I will never send attachments to the
list.
Sure seems like this and/or the Omega list are being targetted.
