Re: [RT] Off-topic: Tape Backups

CD's are adequate for file and even small folder backup but simply too
little capacity for system backup.

There are two considerations in backup ... mistakes and disasters. For
disaster backup there continues to be no substitute for tape ... Travan for
smaller systems and DAT for larger systems ... the media is both inexpensive
and compact, can be readily rotated in generations, and can be easily stored
off-site. System backups should be made weekly and archived for at least 4-8
weeks. For mistake backup (files and folders and system software upgrades),
a spare disk drive is great because files and folders can be recovered in a
matter of minutes rather than the lengthily recovery time from tape ...
daily incremental backups work very nicely for this purpose. Even better is
mirroring to a spare drive which can be implemented using W2000
Professional.
