I've been with Interactive Brokers for 11 months now. I have traded stocks, but
primarily trade the EMini and the ENaz futures. The commission on those are
$4.95/contract per side. I make about 3-5 futures trades per day. When I
traded stocks, I averaged around 25 trades/day with some days as high as 60.
This is purely empirical, and I am a sample size of one, so please take what I
say in perspective: In all of that time, I have had one trade get hung up. As
it turned out (stock trade, QQQ), it never made it to the AMEX, and I called the
help desk and they confirmed it was a null trade. No problems, no
repercussions. Other calls to the helpdesk have never taken longer than 3
minutes to get through.
The connection to GLOBEX2 is fast. My executions are usually within 1-2
seconds, and I can bid or offer ( I know this because I can see the size change
as I put up my bid/offer). I didn't think that meant much, but I've heard of
other software/brokerages where you can't do that...or so they've explained it
that way to me.
The interface is very plain and DOS-like, but once you become familiar with it,
it is very fast. They are working on a newer JAVA based version that should be
out in two months or so.
I trade primarily during Regular Trading Hours, so I can't speak for any
downtime issues. I have experienced none to date. At least five other traders
that I frequently speak with have had similar experiences, although a few times,
some have had longer wait times for the helpdesk.
