Dropped ticks will also affect minute based charts if the ticks that were
lost were at the start / end of the bar or if they constitute the high / low
of the bar. Missing ticks affects charts no matter how you look at them
(except day charts, unless you miss days too...). For tick based, it can
affect OHLC of bars as well as how many tick bars are formed so the
frequency of bars will be altered by tick loss, no question. Tick loss is a
fact of life in trading, key is to minimize tick loss and to expect it so
that your systems / indicators aren't going to fall down or become
inoperable if ticks start being missed. No accounting for a tick blackout,
except battery backups. Nothing you can do when the data vendor stops
sending data however. Best to be prepared for all contingencies and then
deal with what we're dealt.
