Hi Deosaran
For me price action answers two questions:
1 In which direction is the mkt trying to head?
2 How good a job is it doing in seeking to
move in that direction?
In this context, I can think of at least two meanings for price
action.
The first deals with individual bars for a time period,
e.g. a daily bar. The relationships are close to
close, open to close, close relative to the range of
the day, and whether the range of the day is below
normal, normal, or above normal. I also
would include the relationship between the range of the
day and its volume.
For me the ideal buy bar is an up close accompanied
by an open at the bottom of the range and the close
at the top; the range would be normal/slightly above
normal as would volume. This says the mkt is seeking
to head higher and is doing a good job in that
direction.
I made a summary of the various possibilities with
buy and sell chart examples. I am happy to send the
summary but it is a large Word file (4,2972 zipped).
The second meaning is structural - by that I mean:
Interpretation of a bar takes place within a context.
That context I call structural.
It may be part of an Elliott wave structure or it may be the
"third day of a Gann Correction". Personally I like
the "contexts" outlined by Wyckoff and Steidlmayer.
To get an idea of how this combines with S&R, you want
to define whether you are a responsive trader
(buyer on dips/seller on rallies) or a breakout trader.
In an uptrend a responsive trader wants to see some
sign that a support will hold e.g. the mkt has above normal
volume but below normal range as it reaches support.
This tell me buyers are in coming in force.
In a buy breakout, I like to see normal/slightly above normal
range and volume that is not caused by a "figure" news report.
This suggests the breakout is valid.
regards
ray
