I hate to get involved in such petty squabbles, but this time I simply
cannot remain a bystander. I too have services to sell and find it
unfair when I comply with the rules...and others feel no need to do so.
Should I now begin to break the rules and hope that I am not "singled
out" as an offender?
Allow me to put a few things into perspective:
1. RT welcomes entrepreneurs PROVIDED that they do not blatantly
advertise their wares in the forum. Posts should have trading value and
be aimed at a majority of members.
2. RealTraders DOES allow a URL in the signature byline. Most RT'ers are
not stupid...and you do not need to tell them to visit your website if
you provide something of real substance in your post and sign with your
URL. So...the RT Forum acknowledges that many valuable contributors DO
appreciate something in return for their post. There is already a
mechanism to
compensate entrepreneurs...and there is no need for anyone to create
their own forum rules (blatant advertising) simply because they don't
like the current rules.
3. Mr. Winski has gone far beyond blatant advertising...both on the
forum and also through thinly disguised spam to list members. After
receiving an unsolicited sales pitch from Mr. Winski by email, I
privately asked him to stop. Even my written request for him to stop
didn't stop him as I received yet another sales pitch!!! (The moderators
were sent documented evidence of this over a month ago). Either Mr.
Winski doesn't understand plain English, or, he finds himself above the
privacy rights of others...you choose which. I often wonder how many
others RT'ers have received an unsolicited offer (i.e. - thinly
disguised sales pitch) to "help" from Mr. Winski?
4. Mr. Winski has eliminated any possibility of selling to RT'ers that
value
integrity in those they do business with. By agreeing to the rules when
signing on as an RT list member...and then willfully and conscientiously
violate those rules with an extreme unrepentant and unapologetic
attitude....Mr. Winski has graciously given us all the business
reference we'd ever need about himself.
On a personal note, I go ballistic when I hear folks defend themselves
by saying, "Everyone else does it" as if the rules are wrong. The rules
are not wrong Mr. Winski...they are simply rules. Accept them and
participate...or reject them and leave. "I'm being singled out" is not
only untrue, it diverts attention from the facts - was a rule violated
or not? (We wouldn't want to confuse anyone with the facts, would we?"
I'm certain that most RT'ers would have forgiven all if a simple "I'm
sorry" were offered instead of all the "twisting and turning" we
received showing why the rule need not be obeyed. Also, no one has an
inherent right to blatantly advertise in RT regardless of their
contribution.
I would be the very first to come to Mr. Winski's defense with regard to
him having made significant contributions to the group. Personalities,
egos, and politics aside...I would greatly miss Winski's wit, insight,
and astro twist were he gone. Were I the moderator, I'd normally cut off
such a rebellious member immediately. Still, I cannot deny the value of
Mr. Winski contribution to the group over time...and believe that a
suspension of privileges for a short time - along with a written apology
from Mr. Winski - may be in order here. I suspect, somehow, that Mr.
Winski has been previously warned about such things in the past...in
which case outright termination from the group may serve justice best.
It's the moderator's call of course.
I apologize to the group for such a long "non-trading" related
post...but if no one fights commercialization of RT...we might as close
down RT and frequent the public newsgroups instead.
An Open Note to Mr. Winski: Please tell us that you are joking about the
realtraders email address being a promo for RealTraders. I have never
seen RealTraders use the forum to promote itself. If an email address in
their own name is against their own rules, you not only don't understand
the rules, but you have probably been smoking some illegal substance.
An Open Note To The Moderators: If no action is taken on this, how many
offenses must one commit before action is taken...and how severe must
the violation be?
