I would like to start a new thread that hasn't been talked
about in a while, and that is Gi brands.

Just wanted to say that I sew my gis (well, mostly, I have a few that are
commercial). I think my favorite one is made of white denim. The original
pattern was for something like a halloween costume, it goes back to when the
Karate Kid movies were popular.

If made according to the instructions, it is not really acceptable for
class. I have made improvements in the design: changed how long I cut the
pants and the top, changed the drawstring (tried various things here), etc.
All the specific changes I made would not be of interest except perhaps in a
sewing group, but I have hemmed a Tokaido Heavy Weight Gi, and I might say
that I think mine are just as nice for probably $30-40 in materials and
notions. Unless I iron it and starch the heck out of it, it doesnt look
quite as nice, though.

Brian Christiansen
