Most books on economics I have read would never give you any insight into
the stock market. The important economic factors that relate to the
stock market are the trade (business) cycle, interest rates, money supply
and foreign exchange. (I've seen no books on the stock market relationship
to foreign exchange.)

The first three topics are well covered in a book no one ever mentions
(probably because it is beyond copyright.) L.L.B.Angas, Investment
for Appreciation, 1936. He shows the relationship of the business
cycle to interest rates and the stock market.

The second book: Turning Points in Business Cycles by Leonard
P. Ayers, 1940. He documents the behavior of short and long term
interest rates in relation to the business cycle. He was incidentally
the originator of the advance decline line.

A third book worth reading and not nearly as good: Money & Stock
Prices by Beryl Sprinkel, 1964. (He was an under secretary of Treasury
under Regan.) The focus is on money supply and how it effects stock prices.
The approach doesn't work so well today, but gives insight.
Both Sprinkel and Ayers were portfolio strategists for Harris Trust.

The first two books are unlikely to be in copyright. I would send
copies to those interested.

I could use some advice.... I keep my marginable
trading account in bond funds. One is a short term gov't bond fund

sells or holds. Can I use my normal trend indicators on these charts?
Adding yield to the picture confuses me. A second request... I need a good,
basic lesson in economics. My background is psychology... got all
the way through college without an economics course! Can anyone recommend
a book or two? Many thanks!

I have been using an old copy of the Omega (SuperCharts 3) Downloader to
download end of day data from Telescan. I have found this program to be
very useful (probably the only good thing they ever made). It let me
export the data fields I selected to an ascii file so I could import it
to excel. Needless to say it is not y2k compatible. Does anybody know if
there is a y2k compatible version of this program ? Or is there something
else that would let me download from Telescan and let me select the
fields I want to an ascii file ?.
Thanks
Ron McEwan
