In terms of a basic lesson in economics, I have found a course on tape by
"The Teaching Company" at 1-800-teach-12 to be quite satisfactory. It gives
a good overview of micro and macro economics at the first year college
level. The professor has a respectable pedigree, is listenable and offers
insight into topics ranging from inflation, to trade balances, to
environmental regulation to poverty and inequality. There are about 16 45
minute lectures.

I think it is available for about 100 dollars US. They will send a catalog
for free.
