Are any of the Chicago based traders on the list familiar with CNBC's
commentator Rick Santelli? He sounds knowledgeable, but I've never worked
in the pits.
His main theme over the past few weeks is that liquidity is low for various
reasons.
Certainly, volume on NYSE has been below average for a while. Perhaps an
early version of year 2k? Many non-traders I know have moved there cash to
the sidelines "just in case". If y2k is a non-event, most of this money
could flood the markets making a one-time mother of all January effects.
Ergo, a shortage of liquidity now, a tidal wave in January.
