I just got off the horn with "Steve" from DTN "Customer Care." My first
year is up for renewal Jan. 1, and I wanted to get a leg up on this. I was
assured when I signed on that the second year would be month to month, but
neglected to get it in writing, and the contract does in fact stipulate
renewals on an "annual basis."
Steve assured me, however, that the FIRST TWO YEARS are annual commitments,
and beyond that, they are "more willing to work with the customer." As in,
month to month. He said this is strictly an "in-house" arrangement, versus
by contract, meaning of course there is no certainty that they will stay
this way.
I do not agree with the assessment that the tech support is moronic... I
subscribed to DBC for many years and I know moronic tech support. But I
will agree that the back office at DTN sometimes leaves something to be
desired. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with my DTN/Ensign combo, especially
since I plugged in a TurboExpress serial card, to get 460Kb from the
receiver.
