James,
Well, the tone is not always pleasant, but the result is that ideas
are presented and challenged to everyone's benefit. This works, unless
the ideas are withheld due to severe or personal criticism.
Those on the email lists who are knee-jerk negative serve a purpose, they
are the initial filter to expose any blatant false claims and dreams..
After that, the quiet thinkers get involved, to explore for any gem
concepts which
may be hidden in even the most obviously false or exaggerated claims.. You
never
know how that break-through idea will present itself to you. Will it be in a
snake-oil bottle?
Yes, I know several very well qualified people who decline to contribute
on a regular basis because of the overall negative attitude of the human
population. Unfortunately there is no way to effectively regulate a happy
balance.
It takes a very hungry ego, or some financial incentive, to make someone
post contributions consistently in a negative environment, I think...
Neither of those two motivators will appeal to our list members.
Maybe the world isn't perfect after all? But those Fibonacci ratios come
very close, very often <G>...
