Well, Adam, with your excellent contributions on the P&F-subject you are already
continously doing so, returning the favors that is.
Point & Figure Charting has amazed me very positively over the years but for
some reason could never get the charts to come up right in MS.
Continuesly swearing at the program did not help either, so I left it at that
in "that it was not available".
Since a few Users overhere and you on the List brought the subject up again, and
as I have sort of "found my way" within the program, tho mind you how
much time(!!!!!) I had to spend on it to get this far(and that NEVER AGAIN)
have started to do a few variaties as in how to Open a chart(smart, layout etc.).
As that didn't help, then in how else to try to get to have charts showing P&F proper.
First applying the P&F option, here the charts used to come up like Renko's or the
other never used types. With the entire baseperiod loaded, for some reason the
program only wanted to display the last 8-10 years or so. This I still have to manualy
correct with each Chart(X-scale) and why is beyond my knowladge. However, this
odd behaviour does not apply for the here standard used Barcharts-type.
This had me puzzled for over a long time now and I finaly found the answer to it.
(note in this, that in the "Tools|Options|Chart Options" menu, the
'P&F boxes Stay Square' was never 'on' , eg applied, as most of the time then only
blanc screens were presented when applied!).
Now, if you right click the Price indicator for the Properties quick menu, then apply
the indicator to be for the P&F. After "OK" I sometimes got the program to crash or
to display cripled mutulated charts or -like mentioned above- showing up big black
or white then to be 'useless' bars.
Now by changing the P&F "Parameters", on the second TAB behind the colors TAB,
in this changing the parameter for the Box Size from the here somehow always by the
program 'automaticaly'(but not MS standard) used 2.1160-2.5 range into 3.5 or 4.5
would display what ought to be displayed: a Point & Figure chart.
Noticed from this TAB as well that MS is darn well capable to use a High-Low range
in the Price Filed for an indicators Price Base and as such cannot understand why
this High-Low range option is "never" given as an option in the other build-in indicators'
Parameters TABs.
The Raff Floating Regression Channels as such, when this option was given to user,
would then stop drifting away from the right mean.(see the previous mails on
the Raff FRCs subject).
Also an option to have them not being based on the build-in Equis Regression Line's
calculative way, but only to use the highest of the Highs or Lows for that dragging the
study to the right period, and on the APF an desperatly needed option to extend its
lines to the left (for trend/channel study sakes), would then immediatly solve the also
missing channaling option/availablity that the charting program MS lags, eg. misses
out on. And ofcourse to have more of the important Tools button triggered. Like
a standard in length trendline being "fixed" to the mouse pointer, when user presses
its "Draw Trend Line" button, or "also fixed to" when pressing its "Draw Parallel Trend
Line" button.
As such the MS Program(s) are one great bunch of confusion. Note that Microsoft
has got that type of name in "keeping it complex, not simple" as well. Except with their
upgrades Great, must say Huge changes for the better and simpleler usage can be
very well noticed and found.
Now if you would check out the Collective's version of its Charting program, recently
mentioned on the List(thanks Mike), then you would see how simple programs can be
or ought to be made for setting any of the programs configurations and as in how they
give the user most of the time ONLY 1 or 2 pages with multi various configurable
parameters.
Sometimes even up to 30 (!!!!!) parameters can be configured on just 1 page and
in just 'one go' for the whole program.
Before, after experiencing Microsofts complex ways, I had all my programs configurations
and settings(=parameters), stored in a single Excel file and others on paper pages, like
how the BIOS is set-up eyc. just printed out("Prnt Scrn").
Guess that this "KISS" never came up in the MS-programmers minds.
As such and the above missing configurations and desperatly required "High-Low range"
as option to just about all the indicators and the option availabality to line's extensions
to either to the right or to the left, will also send this mail "CC" to
suggestions@xxxxxxxxx
