In a message dated 98-09-19 03:44:09 EDT, you write:

<< Do any of the older hands in the group know if this is all hype or based
 on fact?

Seems extraordinary if it is true and it would have to be one of the
 industries best kept secrets.

Of course like many things it may not perform as well now as it did back
 in 1963. >>

The Commodex ad would be believable if you had accurate volume data. However,
after testing 1000s of data files I have determined that you can't trust
volume data from today's vendors. To prove this to yourself, look at the
volume for the same symbol on the same day from 3 different vendors. There
will be 3 different numbers. On some days the difference is small and on
others it is ridiculous. I have seen volume data with a minus figure like
-1,567,999 for one day. I can't believe the crap that is being sold. It only
takes one bad day to cause your system to create a false entry or exit signal.
I have given up on using volume. Price data is also bad but it is easier to
write filters to check for bad prices and then you can correlate that with
other vendors to come up with a good edited data file. The most reliable
figure from all vendors seems to be the close (Daily Bar Data). Try to use
close for most of your systems and minimize the use of open, high, and low and
forget volume......IMHO.
