<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>Jerry,</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>I believe you are correct (as is Mark Douglass) in the general
public traders' desire to slough ultimate responsibility... thus the adoption of
systems... sometimes in a serial line-up looking for something that will
"win" for them.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>I've studied dozens of the "Masters," both alive and
passed, with a search to answer one explicit question; "what criteria do
you use for your ULTIMATE buy/sell decision before the order?" I've
found that the answer was surprisingly universal... regardless of methodologies,
astrologies, or cardiologies; in one verbiage or another EVERY one said
"I check in with my gut."</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>This aligns with the belief that I have that WE have been
endowed with the most powerful and fastest-processing computer ever invented (or
ever WILL be invented) right between our ears. It's well known that our
unconscious receives and processes data beyond what our conscious ever imagines
or is aware of. All hardware derived systems simply provide an experienced
trader with "permission" to use the signals he ultimately generates
from our "God-given" computer.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>So, then.... why can't most traders simply step right in
and become successful immediately by gut-driven discretionary trading?
Well... maybe they are (see below.) Another probability is that their
"computer" just hasn't quite had enough "historical data"
installed yet to generate consistent profits.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>Regarding the above allusion; Ed Seykota (Market Wizards
by Schwager) said "Everybody gets what they want out of the
market." Judging by hindsight, the greatest majority of would-be
traders REALLY wanted to have proof that they either couldn't win in the
markets, or wouldn't have the discipline/staying-power to perservere UNTIL they
DID succeed.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>BTW, I noticed the "Jesus" tag on your
signature. I respectfully defer to whatever your personal practices and
faith are... however, you may have noticed that many who claim religiosity are
really using their "faith" as a "system" for life, just as
many traders do with the markets. In this same vein, systems can support
generating profitable results... but only if consistent personal responsibility
is claimed.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV>Hi Realtraders,</DIV><BR>
<DIV> I recently bought Mark Douglas's book, "The Disciplined
Trader". I am curious as to whether any of you have an opinion of this
book. One thing he says that caught my attention is that deep down inside,
many traders like to avoid taking responsibility for their trading
decisions. If that be so, I was thinking, that may be a factor in our great
interest in systems. If the system says buy or sell, and I do, then I don't
have to take responsibility for that trade in my internal thought
processes.</DIV><BR>
<DIV>What do you think?</DIV><BR>
