Of course on electronic exchanges it is a clerk entering the order on the
system. On a pit, orders go from the desk to the phone clerk on the pit and
is:
- either flash transmitted to the filling broker, who will correspond with
other brokers either through hand signals on busy markets, or on very slow
markets will shout at them.
- or carried by a runner to the filling broker, who again will flash or shout.
So "flash fills" doesn't mean much. What is really important is how fast you
get to the pit: direct access or through the desk.
Direct access requires good understanding of order transmission rules, and
requires you to be very concise, or you disrupt the order flow and you'll be
kicked butt.
Through the desk allows you to talk a bit more, maybe ask a question, etc.
Recommended for most.
Once in the pit though, it is going at the speed of your filling broker, not
slower not faster, flash fills or no flash fills.
