I've used both programs quite a bit. I generally just go out to a DOS
prompt and use PKUNZIP to unpack a zipped file.
WINZIP is worth having around, though; if you ever get to the point
where you want to compress files yourself, I think you'll find WINZIP
is more flexible, especially if you're compressing large files that
will span more than one diskette.
