Here is a method I learned a couple of years ago (for futures):

1)  Initial stop is the low or high 3 days ago (depending on long or short).
2)  I then move the stop to breakeven after 2 days in a row of positive
    profits.
3)  After 3 more positive profit days in a row, move stop to low 3 days ago
    (if long) or to the high 3 days ago (if short).  
4)  After 3 more positive profit days in a row, move stop to low 3 days ago
    (if long) or to the high 3 days ago (if short).
5)  And so on until the stop is hit.

This method sets initial risk, limits loss if I'm correct, as well as protects
profits as the trade goes and lets profits run.
