That is how I learned to trade. For about a year before I got my seat I stood
down in the S&P 500 pit and watched. I worked for a trader who was a friend of
my father (the best way to learn and probably the hardest to get). The trader
had been on various floors for over 25 years. I think being a clerk or runner
or even an arb clerk is not the way to go. Sure you get to meet people, but
nothing is better than being tutored by a trader and listening to him
throughout the day, seeing the ups and downs.
The hard part is getting down there. I was lucky, most do not get to just
start working for a trader. You do not get paid that much anyways if you are a
runner of clerk. The problem also of being down on the floor with a yellow
jacket (CME) is that many of the people down there are uneducated bums. So you
are making lilttle money, hanging around high school and college (first year)
dropouts nd can only watch the trading. So if you are lucky liek m and knew a
trader you can do it. The other route is much harder and much longer.
IMHO............
opppsss this note is short and may be disjointed......gotta get back down...my
