I don't think a periodic "ping" is a very good idea. During 1997, I was
very busy designing a new house, building it, moving, and unpacking. I
might not check my messages for several days. However, I DID want those
messages. I doubt that I would have responded within the time allowed.
I would have spent most of 1997 emailing John in order to be put back
on the list.
