Reuters does have reliable data after the self correcting maintenance
runs each night. And there are corrections usually every night. They
must be minor price adjustments because I have only seem a few obvious
daily errors. I download all major futures commodity months and
continuous contracts, plus Indexes.. I am using Metastock with the
downloader Reuter's has provided and it is slick and easy.
One point, not all the contracts for Futures are available till 9:00PM
EST. Most of the future months daily prices are in early evening, say
6:00pm, except usually currencies and energies. Also the Continuous
futures contracts do not usually get updated till 9:00PM. Actual update
times do vary but are always there by 9:00PM. I do not know about
stocks.
Have had some trouble around 9:00PM downloading everything at once. I
have two smaller lists to download and run twice when the total download
errors out with an 800 error.. This is probably due to more users
logging on at the magic hour 9:00PM.
In the past year, there have been maybe 5 times when Reuters service was
down for a while or the evening. Early morning rising was in store a
couple of days.
Overall Reuters was OK, but I feel costly compared to the new internet
EOD providers. I often wonder how PROPHET data integrity and
reliablitity compare. They advertise early data retrieval too.
