Don't know if this is your problem but this same thing happen to me one time
on a 1 minute chart for @NQ and it took forever to get TS 8.0 going.

On one of my charts, I had the "First Date" radio button clicked with a date
set to way back in the past -- like years ago. Don't know how it happen but
it did. TS 8 was down loading all the data for all those years and then
doing all the calculations for my indicators and trading strategy. Well I
changed the date to about six months in the past and the problem went away.
I could have clicked "Bars Back" and set it to a reasonable value too.
